The decision was taken during a meeting, which was scheduled after taking suggestions from parents, health committee officials and educational experts, that was chaired by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa. Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar and officials from the education department were present.
Speaking about the meeting, CM BSY said that education experts have opined that classes in schools or PU colleges should not be started till December end. “A decision should be taken only after the end of December,” he said, adding that they will meet again towards the end of December and take the appropriate decision according to the COVID-19 situation, NDTV reported.
Regarding the colleges that opened just last week, BSY said, “In the few engineering colleges that resumed classes recently, students’ attendance is under 5 per cent.”
It can be recalled that the government had permitted degree colleges and other higher education institutions to re-open from November 17, after consultation with experts.
Schools across the state have been shut since March 23 due to the COVID-19 scare.
