Bengaluru: Kusuma Ravi, wife of deceased IAS officer DK Ravi joined the Congress party, Sunday, October 4. She is also being considered as the Congress’ candidate for RR Nagar by-elections.

KPCC President DK Shivakumar, who welcomed Kusuma into the party folds said that Kusuma is educated and is a suitable candidate for the constituency.

“We have recommended her name to the high comand. They will decide,” said DKShi adding that the party wanted to field a woman candidate, who is educated and also can strike a chord with the youth.

Kusuma’s father Hanumanthrayappa is a former council member from the RR Nagar zone. He was the chairman of the Mysuru Planning Committee.

Since the RR Nagar constituency had large number of Vokkaliga voters, the sources say that the Congress had zeroed in on Kusuma, who hails from the Vokkaliga community.

It may be recalled that Kusuma’s husband DK Ravi was found dead by hanging in his residence in Koramangala in 2015. The death had sparked a huge controversy. Name of several politicians came to light for harassing the upright and an honest officer.

Bowing down to mounting pressure, the then CM Siddaramaiah had ordered CBI probe into the matter ad in 2016, the CBI filed a closure report stating that Ravi had ended life on his own.

Meanwhile, DK Ravi’s mother, who shares a strained equation with her daughter in-law has warned Kusuma against using her son’s name or photographs to bag votes.
