A 26-year-old labourer, Pushparaj, was fatally assaulted and burned by his friend, Sadiq alias John, in Sampigehalli on August 23. The incident occurred at a shed in RK Hegde Nagar.
On August 23, police discovered Pushparaj’s half-burnt body at the shed. Initial investigations identified the victim and led to a manhunt for the suspect. Sadiq, 28, was arrested on August 26 after CCTV footage placed him at the scene.
Investigations revealed that Pushparaj and Sadiq, who were close friends, often drank together and stayed in the shed. On the day of the murder, Pushparaj, after a drinking session, provoked Sadiq and took his place in bed. This led to Sadiq striking Pushparaj with a brick in retaliation. After returning to find Pushparaj still alive, Sadiq hit him again and attempted to destroy evidence by setting the body on fire.
Sadiq tried to flee by seeking money from his mother, but was arrested by police after a brief investigation.
