A young woman from Jammu has gone viral online after showcasing her impressive fluency in Kannada during a street interview in Bengaluru, reigniting the ongoing conversation around local language learning for migrants.

In the now-popular clip, she passionately advocates for non-native residents to embrace Kannada, especially when they choose to live or work in Karnataka. Highlighting the increasing migration from regions like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Nepal, she questions the reluctance of many outsiders to adapt to the state’s culture and language.

Her core message was clear: “If you’ve made Karnataka your home, learning Kannada is the least you can do.” She also pointed out how locals often feel marginalised, not just by the rising population but by demands to converse in Hindi instead of the regional tongue.

Switching seamlessly into Kannada, she stated, “So many outsiders arrive here that locals are being pushed aside. And worse, they insist we speak Hindi. Why not learn Kannada instead?”

Her respectful yet firm tone struck a chord with both the host and viewers. The interviewer even responded with admiration, saying, “You just dropped your crown,” — a remark that resonated widely.

On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Kannadigas praised her stance. “She’s a true queen,” wrote one user, while another posted, “Respect the language of the land—learn Kannada.”

Others added that migrants from smaller states often show deeper respect for linguistic diversity and urged outsiders to do the same.
