Bengaluru: In recent times “Fake News”, has not only created chaos but has also disrupted the social fabric. The best example for this is the child abductor’s fake message that went viral on Whatsapp, due to which a number of innocents were manhandled and brutally beaten to death.
Similarly, the fake news pertaining to wild animals entering the human habitat too has taken the social media by storm.
This time around it was the picnic hotspot Nandi Hills in news.
A news stating that a leopard had attacked a biker at the hills was being circulated on social networking sites, which caused a sense of fear. Soon, the bikers were restricted from entering Nandi Hills. When one of the English dailies contacted the horticulture department officer and probed about the incident, only to find out that the news was fake. The officer said that there was no such incident reported and that none were restricted from entering the Nandi Hills.
