Leopard Spotted in Bengaluru’s Jigani Area, Forest Officials Launch Search Operation
A leopard was sighted in the BRS Layout of Bengaluru’s Jigani area on Sunday, as reported by Deccan Herald. The big cat, which was captured on CCTV cameras, was seen casually strolling through the neighborhood. The sighting prompted local residents to raise alarms after noticing increased barking from dogs in the area.
Leopard’s Possible Origin The Jigani area’s proximity to the Bannerghatta Forest suggests that the leopard may have wandered out from its natural habitat. Concerns about the potential threat to human safety have led forest officials to initiate a search operation to locate and capture the animal.
Previous Incidents This is not the first time a leopard has been reported in this region. Earlier, a similar situation occurred in Chikka Togur near NICE Road, where a leopard was trapped after setting up a snare. Additionally, another leopard was seen near Kudlu Gate and was involved in an incident where it was shot after being deemed a significant risk.
Current Search Efforts Forest officials are working diligently to track down the leopard, given the potential danger it poses to the local population. The leopard’s appearance in urban areas highlights ongoing challenges in managing wildlife-human interactions, especially near forested zones.
