Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru this week, warning residents of rain, cloudy skies, and potential thunderstorms. The city is expected to experience light drizzles throughout the week, providing some relief from the typical July humidity but also raising the possibility of traffic delays and waterlogging.
Cloudy skies and light drizzle today
On Wednesday morning, residents woke up to grey skies and mild humidity. According to IMD data, Bengaluru received 0.1 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours. Daytime temperatures are forecast to remain around 28–29°C, while nighttime temperatures could drop to around 20°C, maintaining a humid atmosphere throughout the day.
On Tuesday, the city recorded a maximum of 28.4°C by 5:30 PM and a minimum of 20.4°C in the early morning. Humidity levels touched 85% at 8:30 AM, continuing a spell of discomfort in the early hours.
Rain likely to intensify over the weekend
According to the IMD’s extended forecast, the current light showers may intensify into heavier spells over the weekend, especially during the late afternoons and evenings. The department has urged residents to monitor updates and plan accordingly.
The cloudy and wet conditions are expected to dominate Bengaluru’s weather for the rest of the week.
Waterlogging concerns in key areas
Several areas in the city remain vulnerable to waterlogging, particularly after short spells of rain. Commuters are advised to avoid routes prone to flooding and plan extra travel time, especially during office hours. Notable stretches likely to be affected include:
-
Outer Ring Road (Bellandur, KR Puram)
Silk Board Junction
Hosur Road
Koramangala 80 Feet Road
Shantinagar
Mahadevapura
Hennur Road
Low-lying underpasses in these zones may become temporarily impassable due to water accumulation.
Advisory to citizens
-
Avoid venturing into flooded areas or open construction sites during rain.
Carry umbrellas or raincoats when outdoors.
Allow extra commuting time if travelling through known waterlogging zones.
Monitor local forecasts from the India Meteorological Department for real-time weather updates.
As the city moves through the peak monsoon phase, light rain spells are expected to be a regular feature, making it crucial for residents and commuters to stay alert and prepared.
