Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has finally decided to reinstall litter bins across the city.

More than 2000 twin-litter litter bins in green and blue colours are likely to be installed in commercial areas, markets and slums over the next 15 days.

Bengaluru Development Minister K J George inaugurated the programme of installing bins today near the National Market area in Gandhinagar. The goal is to prevent black spots in the city, according to BMMP officials.

Prior to 2000, every corner of the city had dustbins, but they were removed as the civic administration adopted a no-bin policy and encouraged segregation at home.

Under the Chief Minister’s Nagorotthana scheme, BBMP hopes to create awareness among the public to prevent random littering in the city and enhance cleanliness by employing the new 200 litre bins.

Gandhinagar MLA and Congress working President (South ) Dinesh Gundu Rao, Mayor Padmavathi, BBMP officials and others were present.
