Bangaluru: An animal trainer, Gopinath alias Gopi, was arrested by Commercial Street Police late on the night of January 2, in connection with the death of 40-year-old homemaker Tara Prabhu.

It is gathered that Gopi, a 35-year-old married man with children, and Tara were having an affair. Gopi is said to have confessed to the police that he smothered Tara and slit her throat.

The two met when Tara’s husband Prabhu was training Gopi as a dog and bird trainer from 2014-2015. They later became friends and started an affair. When Gopi wanted to start his own bird rearing business, he approached Tara to front the money to the tune of Rs 11.08 Lakh. She willingly gave him the money without the knowledge of her family.

They began to have issues when Tara started demanding that he return her money as she had pledged her jewellery in order to get the money, a fact that she could not keep hidden for much longer.

According to the police, Gopi said that he was ready to pay the money but she demanded the entire amount instantly and threatened to file a false rape complaint against him.

As per the police, the two love birds had a fight on the evening of December 29 resulting in the unfortunate demise of Tara.

Tara’s decomposing body was found three days after the murder, in the bedroom of her mother’s house, after her mother, Sarala, returned from Hubballi.
