Maharashtra has emerged as the new startup capital of India, surpassing Bengaluru both in terms of the number and value of startups, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Friday. Speaking at the tech exhibition COMP-EX 2025, Fadnavis highlighted the state’s leadership in technology and its growing prominence as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.

“Maharashtra has surpassed Bengaluru and has become the startup capital of the country in the last year,” Fadnavis remarked, noting that the state now hosts the highest number of startups and is home to numerous unicorns.

The Maharashtra government is also focused on promoting the growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) startups, with initiatives aimed at fostering innovation in this sector. To solidify its position as the country’s leader in technology, Fadnavis revealed plans to establish an “Innovation City” in the state.

Additionally, Maharashtra is recognized as the fintech capital of India, further emphasizing its diverse strengths in the tech and startup ecosystem.
