The death of a 19-year-old engineering student from Manipal Academy of Higher Education in Bengaluru has triggered serious concerns, after his father alleged a possible cover-up by the institution.

The student, identified as Lakshya Mishra, reportedly fell from the ninth floor of his hostel in Yelahanka New Town in the early hours of April 7, around 1.30 am.

Father questions official version

Lakshya’s father, Anjani Mishra, who travelled from Ranchi to Bengaluru, has publicly raised doubts about the circumstances surrounding his son’s death. In a video shared online, he stated that the account provided by college authorities did not match what he observed.

He said he received a call around 3.30 am informing him that his son had fallen from the hostel building, followed by another call from the hospital half an hour later confirming the death.

According to him, there were no visible injuries on the body consistent with a fall from such a height. He also questioned the possibility of a fall through the hostel window, stating it appeared structurally unlikely.

“I want justice,” he said, urging authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation.

Police begin inquiry

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and stated that it is too early to draw conclusions. Officials indicated that all angles are being examined as part of the investigation.

Call for transparency and accountability

The incident has raised concerns about student safety and institutional accountability, particularly in residential campuses. Families and students have called for clarity and due process to ensure that the truth is established.

Authorities are expected to rely on forensic analysis, eyewitness accounts, and technical evidence to determine the exact sequence of events.

Mental health support remains crucial

While the cause of the incident is yet to be confirmed, experts emphasise the importance of mental health awareness and timely support for students facing stress or emotional challenges.
