Property owners across Karnataka have received a big relief as the state government reported substantial progress in issuing e-khatas. Municipal administration minister Rahim Khan informed the legislative council that of the 7,00,899 applications received statewide, 6,53,989 e-khatas have been issued, with 45,910 still pending. Several Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) have achieved zero pendency.

In Mysuru district, 14 ULBs received 72,184 applications, of which 62,277 were approved and 3,143 rejected for various reasons. Mysuru City Corporation commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif said weekly grievance redressal meetings will be held and stressed that the initiative will strengthen tax compliance by detecting anomalies in property records.

However, concerns remain. Former Mysuru mayor M Shivakumar urged for a more tech-driven model, citing states like Bihar, where e-khata applications can be filed from home after scientific surveys and drone mapping.
