Bengaluru: Former prime minister and JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda has claimed that, after the 2018 state Assembly election results were announced, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge was offered the Chief Minister post in the coalition government. “But he rejected it. This forced H D Kumaraswamy to accept the post,” he stated.
During a party in Chennapatna on Friday, March 6 night, HDD stated that he had suggested Kharge’s name for the coveted post. “But he refused the offer. So H D Kumaraswamy became the CM,” he said.
“We never wanted power. It came. But due to power politics, the coalition government collapsed. We have no regret of forming the government,” he said.
HDD also stated that he wanted to strengthen the party till his last breath. “People say that there is no future for regional parties in the state. But I wanted to prove that they are wrong,” he said.
