A man in western Bengaluru’s Jnanabharathi was arrested on Sunday after allegedly confronting and obstructing a traffic police officer during routine checks.

The accused, Naveen Gowda, who claimed to be a local JD(S) block leader, was booked under BNS Section 132 for using criminal force to deter a public servant from duty. The complaint was filed by Traffic Sub-Inspector Kumar C, who was part of the team conducting inspections near SBI Bank on Ullal Main Road around 11:50 am on Saturday.

According to the FIR, Gowda was stopped for riding without a helmet while heading from Ullal towards Amma Ashram on a scooter (KA 41 EK 6731). When asked to pay the fine, he allegedly refused, stating defiantly that he neither wore the helmet on purpose nor intended to pay the penalty.

“He told me to call anyone I wanted and openly admitted to ignoring the rule just to challenge us,” the officer said in his report. Gowda further asserted his political influence, claiming to be the JD(S) block leader of the area, and forcibly removed his vehicle from the spot without settling the fine.

The sub-inspector later lodged a complaint, following which police arrested Gowda for obstructing official duties.
