Incident Details

The accused, Pratap Chandra, is from West Bengal, and he has been working at a small restaurant in Chamarajpet for the past month. The police said Chandra, a bachelor who lives at his workplace, was in an inebriated condition when he committed the act. Chandra walked into a residential lane off Gali Anjaneyaswamy temple, picked up stones, and started smashing window glasses of five cars, one Tempo Traveller, and two mini-goods vehicles. Chandra also entered one of the cars and unlocked the handbrake. The noise alerted the residents, who came out of their houses, prompting Chandra to flee. A Hoysala patrol vehicle spotted him behaving suspiciously a short distance away and detained him.

Police Statement:

“He was drunk and couldn’t walk properly. We took him to the station, and by then, owners of the damaged vehicles arrived. CCTV footage showed Chandra in action,” a police source said. Chandra has been booked for damaging public property.

Legal Proceedings

Chandra’s advocate has undertaken to submit the documents required within four weeks so that legal proceedings will be taken and the case is carried forward with complete transparency.

Conclusion

The arrest of Pratap Chandra for smashing the window glasses of eight parked vehicles has relieved the residents of Byatarayanapura. This incident would keep the police on their toes and prompt them to act quickly to set right such acts of vandalism.
