Magadi: In a horrific incident, husband of a school teacher tried to kill her by setting her on fire after she denied him money, at a lower primary government school in Shambhiah palya of Magadi taluk.
Sunandamma, 50, a resident of Thavarekere in Bangalore South taluk is the victim who suffered nearly 70 percent burns on the body and was hospitalized. The victim is recuperating at Victoria hospital and is reportedly out of danger.
Husband Renukaradhya came to school on August 16 morning at 11 am to see his wife, a teacher at a lower primary government school in Shambiah palya. Later, he approached the school headmaster Shivanna and sought half an hour permission to interact with his wife.
Sunandamma sent the children from her classroom to the adjacent room. Later they were involved in a heated verbal duel and when Sunadamma refused to part with money, an enraged Renukaradhya drenched her with a bottle of petrol and set her on fire, it is gathered.
After hearing her cries head master Shivanna assisted by a person named Manjunath rushed her to the nearest hospital in emergency ambulance and later to Victoria hospital in Bengaluru city.
According to eyewitnesses, Renukaradhya used to drop wife Sunanda to school every day in the car, but she had reached the school early on her own yesterday.
Teacher Sunandamma parted ways with her first husband and married Renukaradhyana 5 years ago. He had taken Rs 2 lakhs cash and jewels worth Rs 4 lakhs recently and never returned home for over a month,it is gathered. But on Wednesday when his attempt to get money from his wife failed, he allegedly threw petrol on her sari from a 2 litre plastic bottle which he had carried to school. After setting her on fire, he fled the scene.
The police have registered a case into the incident.
