Bengaluru: Former CM Siddaramaih faced an embarrassing situation when a few Congress activists urged him to support Sumalatha Ambareesh, an independent candidate in Mandya, while campaigning for the party candidate in Bengaluru central Lok Sabha on Monday, April 8.
On Monday noon, Siddaramaiah was campaigning for alliance candidate Rizvan Arshad in the central area of the city. At that time, a few of the party’s activists stopped him and urged him to support Sumalatha in Mandya. “We will ensure Rizvan’s victory in Bengaluru Central,” they offered.
Surprised by the demand, Siddaramaiah ignored the activists and continue the road show. But the activists shouted pro-Sumalatha slogans.
It can be recalled that in the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, the Congress party is a divided house over the issue of supporting Sumalatha or the Congress-JDS alliance candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy.
