Massive support for bundh, total shutdown imminent

Bengaluru: As the state gets ready to face an imminent bandh on Friday, the ruling and opposition parties of Karnataka have gotten together in making the bundh successful.

According to intelligence, the Bengaluru-Mysuru regions will definitely be the worst hit in the state as there will be total shutdown. The Northern parts of Karnataka are unlikely to have a complete bundh called by the farmers’ unions and activists protesting the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

Mandya has seen the brunt of the protests for the past three days. Children are also protesting against the Supreme Court’s orders. The protestors in Mandya are trying to block Bengaluru-Mysuru highway as well. There will be no vehicular movement between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu on the bundh day as well. Tamil Nadu registered vehicles will not be allowed into Karnataka.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) had a few buses moving in and out of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday but on Friday, all Government buses will be operating from 6AM to 6PM. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will however run metro services depending on the situation.

The bundh will be supported massively in Bengaluru. More than 2000 organisations in the state have pledged their support along with the Hotel Owners’ Association and cab associations as well. Taxis plying to airport and Rickshaws will not operate in the city.

Movie theaters and hotels will be shut on Friday. But emergency services and basic necessities will be available to the people. The Government has instructed hospitals to be open and provide ambulance service, milk delivery agents will be operating.

The medicals shops will be closed as Karnataka Pharma Association supports this bundh too. But the medical shops inside the hospital campus will remain open.

Vatal Nagraj’s group will have a protest march from Townhall to Freedom Park to play an active part in making a big impact.

CM Siddharamaiah has requested the protestors to conduct the protests in a peaceful manner. He has also mentioned that necessary measure have been taken to handle the bundh.

Sandalwood stars support bundh

Bengaluru: The real life incidents have roped in the reel life people in the city to show their protest the Supreme Court order to let 15,000 cusecs of Cauvery water flow into Tamil Nadu everyday for the next ten days.

The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) extended their support to the bundh along with the stars too. The Chairman of KFCC said that many Kannada stars will protest alongside the farmers, but some will not be able to make it as they are in the United States to attend the Kannada AKKA conference.

Actors Kiccha Sudeep and Challenging Star Darshan have joined the protest on today, Thursday.
