In a bid to address the persistent issue of solid waste accumulation in storm water drains, mechanical devices have been installed at three locations in East Bengaluru. The initiative, spearheaded by the BBMP SWD department, aims to mitigate flooding and enhance drainage capacity in the city. The project received support from CGI, a leading IT and business consulting services firm, through its CSR and sustainability program.
Implemented by the NGO That’s Eco Foundation, the installations feature innovative technology provided by AlphaMERS. These floating devices are designed to adapt to fluctuating water levels, ensuring efficacy both during dry spells and monsoon seasons. By preventing the choking of storm water drains, the barriers play a crucial role in minimizing flooding incidents and safeguarding urban infrastructure.
Bengaluru has grappled with recurrent flooding woes, prompting authorities to explore sustainable solutions. The introduction of mechanical devices marks a significant step towards improving the city’s resilience to water-related challenges. With ongoing efforts to combat solid waste accumulation, Bengaluru aims to bolster its drainage infrastructure and enhance overall urban resilience.
