Bengaluru: Poura Karmikas sweeping the city roads is common scene across the Bengaluru city. But in next few days, machines may replace them.
On Saturday Sarfaraz Khan, Joint commissioner (Health/SWM) BBMP announced the arrival of mechnical sweeping machines to the city.
According to Mr. Khan, BBMP will get 16 such sweeping machines. “Two machies have already reached the city. Seven machines are on the way and seven more will be arriving by July,” he stated.
“State government has approved the proposal of buying another 16 such sweeping machines this year. This will reduce the danger and risk to poura karmikas who sweep the roads on daily basis,” he informed.
He also stated that these mechanic sweepers will be allotted to major roads and important roads and subsequently to almost all main roads of the city. “We are also in the process of checking on smaller machines to be used in residential areas and markets,” he added.
According to the BBMP officials, these machines will start work in the first week of May. “First we need to carry out test checks,” said an officer.
