Bengaluru: In what may come as a huge relief to medicos on rural service, Minister for Health U T Khader has said that the doctors who have completed three years of rural service are entitled to get urban posting, in case they wished to.

Addressing reporters in Bengaluru on Friday, Khader said that the doctors who have completed the required years of rural service, serving government hospitals and primary health centres will be posted in urban pockets through counselling and the process on the same will begin soon.

As per the existing rule, the medicos who have served ten years of compulsory rural service could opt for transfer to cities. The new relaxed rule has come as silver lining.

He said that 2,500 application have been received to fill 350 posts for MBBS doctors and 3,000 applications have been received to fill the posts of 82 dentists in the state.

“These vacancies will be filled only after the counselling process to transfer the doctors from rural service to cities is completed,” he said adding that all the vacancies for MBBS doctors in Primary Health centres across the state will be filled by December end.
