Bengaluru: The members of the Bangalore University syndicate who were nominated by the State Government have decided to submit mass resignations in protest over the Government’s decision to withdraw two members’ nominations.
Speaking to mediapersons on Monday April 11, the members appointed by the Government said that they will submit their resignations to the Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department today.
Prem Sohanlal and Govindaraju’s nominations were recently withdrawn by the State Government and were replaced by two new members.
Speaking to mediapersons T. V. Raju said, “The Government has withdrawan the nomination of members without giving any valid reasons and condemning the same, we are also submitting our resignations.” Raju and Gopinath, the other two members, have announced their resignations in response to this.
Members who had their nominations withdrawn urged an investigation of the university’s irregularities.
“I believe I was removed because I raised concerns about inconsistencies and objected to university funds being released for construction works at UVCE, which has bee designated as an autonomous institution,” Prem Sohanlal said.
Members further claim that Vice Chancellor Professor K. R. Venugopal is deceiving the government by presenting inaccurate information.
“The Syndicate did not approve many matters but the Vice Chancellor misled the Government by claiming the Syndicate had accepted everything,” claimed one of the members.
Members have even questioned the Government’s reason for removing them. “We are ready for any kind of investigation but we want to know why we were removed,” said Govindaraju.
Members have written to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, and Governor, requesting an investigation into the alleged irregularities.
