Bengaluru’s beloved metro system has earned a playful new nickname online — the “Metro-coaster” — after viral photographs showing its undulating elevated tracks sparked animated discussions on social media.
The images, shared by a Reddit user, capture dramatic “up and down” curves along an elevated stretch of track in north Bengaluru, located after the Hebbal flyover on the airport road. The visual illusion made many users compare the structure to a steel roller coaster rather than an urban transit system.
“Metro-coaster?” one user captioned the post, asking whether anyone had seen the metro climbing steep slopes in the city.
Social media reactions pour in
Online reactions ranged from confusion to humour. Some users questioned how the stretch differed from other lines, such as underground sections that rise above ground. Others pointed out that this segment appears to go up and down while remaining entirely elevated.
A few netizens suggested that the slope of the adjacent road might have exaggerated the curves, making the track appear more dramatic than it actually is.
Despite the banter, many users appreciated the engineering feat behind the elevated structure.
