BENGALURU: Starting February 9, 2025, Bengaluru Metro ticket prices will surge by nearly 50%, following recommendations from the Fare Fixation Committee. The highest fare has jumped from ₹60 to ₹90, while the minimum amount required in a Metro Smart Card is now ₹90 instead of ₹50.

For the first time, Bengaluru Metro will implement a differential pricing system, similar to ride-hailing services, with separate charges for peak and off-peak hours. Travelers using Smart Cards will receive a 10% discount during non-peak times, which include mornings before 8 AM, afternoons from 12 PM to 4 PM, and late nights after 9 PM on weekdays. Sundays and public holidays will have a uniform 10% discount for all passengers.

Short-distance travel has also become costlier. A ride up to 2 km now costs ₹10, while distances between 2 km and 4 km are priced at ₹20. Longer routes exceeding 30 km will require ₹90.

This fare revision closely follows a 15% hike in Karnataka government bus fares, adding to the financial strain on daily commuters. Earlier, Bengaluru Central MP P C Mohan had announced that the fare increase was temporarily stalled after central government intervention, raising hopes of a delay. However, with the new structure now official, Metro riders must prepare for higher commuting expenses.
