Bengaluru: The operation division staffs of Bangalore Metro Rail Transport Corporation Limited (BMRTCL) are all set for a standoff demanding a revision of pay and promotion to the staff at least after eight years of service.
After a clash between Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) and Metro staff on July 7, 2017, the operations division staff stopped serving as a mark of protest against the BMRCL officials, who allegedly didn’t come for the rescue of their staff. The service stopped till afternoon and was resumed only after the BMRCL officers agreed to fulfill the demands of the staff.
“However, they didn’t agree to give recognition to our labour organization. In spite of requesting many times, they didn’t turn up. So, we will inform about the strike to the Managing Director of the BMRCL and labour department,” said one of the staffs.
“Moreover, many staff of the operation division have been serving from the past eight years. But, they didn’t get any promotion. There is provision to promote section engineers as assistant managers, but the BMRCL has made up its mind for a direct appointment for the posts of Assistant Manager Posts,” he said.
He complained that the corporation doesn’t want to implement the report of the third finance commission, formed by the Central government for the revision of the salary of the employees of Central government-owned corporations.
“The corporation is not serious regarding providing houses to the staff. But, the corporation didn’t decide on Peenya and Baiyappanahalli residential complexes. After starting complete operation of the first phase, the work pressure has also increased,” said the staff on conditions of anonymity.
