Bengaluru: A day after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) announced that Tumakuru Lok Sabha constituency will be left for the JDS, the capital city witnessed high melodrama, on Thursday night.
SP Muddahanumegowda, a Congress leader, is the incumbent MP of Tumakuru. It is the home turf of DCM Dr G Parameshwar. As the news spread, SP Muddahanumegowda rushed to Bengaluru on Thursday morning and met senior party leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge and DCM G Parameshwar and appealed them to save his constituency.
As the DCM was blamed for failing to protect his home turf, Parameshwar started the damage control exercise. In the late evening, he met HD Deve Gowda and requested him not to field JDS candidate and ensure the reelection of Gowda.
According to the sources, Deve Gowda responded negatively.
If sources in the JDS are to be believed, party leaders informed the Congress leadership that they are ready to swap Tumakuru for Mysuru. “But it is not possible,” said a senior Congress leader.
