Mining scam: SIT registers cases against Dharam, HDK

Bengaluru: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating into the illegal mining in the state on Wednesday registered cases against former chief ministers N Dharam Singh and H D Kumaraswamy as also against some serving and retired officers.

As many as 11 serving and retired officers have been booked in the case. Cases were registered as per the Supreme Court’s directive on March 29.

Sources said that the court had asked the SIT to complete the probe within three months. Dharam Singh and Kumaraswamy are accused of allowing mining in reserved forest areas in Ballari district.

Officials against whom the cases were registered include M Basappa Reddy, Gangaram Baderiya, V Umesh, I Perumal, K S Manjunath, D S Ashwath, Jija Hari Singh, Mahendra Jain, K Srinivas, M Ramappa and Shankarlingaiah.
