Bengaluru: State youth empowerment and sports minister Rahim Mahmood Khan, who represents the Bidar north Assembly constituency, is all set to quit the Congress party. He is likely to join the BJP.

Khan confirmed that he is considering the proposal of quitting. “I am not getting any money for my department. No fund has been released even for the constituency. I will take a decision on my resignation after a discussion with Shivajinagar MLA Roshan Baig,” he said.

What is surprising is that the OBC and Muslim leaders are planning to join the BJP despite the party not showing an inclination towards having minority leaders.

“The RSS will not give any respect to these leaders. Khan is facing a lot of opposition in his constituency from the BJP, which is known for its anti-Muslim stand in Karnataka. The first thing they will do on gaining power is cancelling the Tipu Jayanti celebrations and moving an anti-cow slaughter bill,” said a senior Congress leader to Newskarnataka.com.

Last minute efforts: According to sources, Bhavani Revanna, wife of PWD minister H D Revanna is pressurising JDS supremo H D Devegowda to leave the CM’s post to the Congress and make her husband H D Revanna the DCM. “If Siddaramaiah becomes the CM, all the problems will get resolved. Sensing Bhavani’s pressure, now CM H D Kumaraswamy’s supporters are planning a different strategy,” explained a JDS leader.
