According to the police, the girl was visiting her grandfather Puttaswamy for summer vacation and used to play with the Anil’s daughter as the family lived nearby.

A few days ago, Anil’s wife and daughter left for their home town. Without knowing this, the girl went to Anil’s house to meet her friend on April 20 while her grandfather, a vegetable vendor, was out on work.

Meanwhile, Puttaswamy returned from work and realised that his granddaughter was missing. After hours of search, he filed a missing complaint with the police.

The neighbours who had joined the search operation on Sunday alerted the police after a foul smell started emanating from Anil’s house. The police broke open the door and found the decomposed body of the girl in a cardboard box.
