Minor surgery lands child in coma; medical negligence alleged

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident of medical negligence in the Garden City, a child slipped into coma after being operated for an injured finger.

Five-year-old Lakshay was rushed to a hospital on June 10 after he injured two fingers of his left hand while playing in his classroom. Purushottham Raju, the child’s father who rushed to the hospital noticed that his son’s fingers were injured. One of the doctors available informed him that a plastic surgery was to be performed on of the injured fingers within 6 hours and also demanded Rs 60,000. The child’s father deposited Rs 25,000.

Lakshay’s father who spoke to media told that his son was active and playing games before the surgery. He said that the doctors informed him about his child slipping into coma after he was deprived of oxygen. They also said that Lakshay had developed some heart problem.

The child is now in a different hospital after the doctors forced the parents to shift him.

It is nine days and the child is still in coma.

It is learnt that the officials in the hospital the child was initially admitted, have refused to answer any media queries.
