Bengaluru: The Karnataka Police Department suspended Police Inspector Shankar Nayak from the Bidadi police station on Thursday. The suspension, executed by IGP (Central Range) Ravikanthe Gowda, follows allegations of the misappropriation of Rs 75 lakh in recovered funds related to a theft case.

The controversy emerged when accusations of the misapplication of the aforementioned funds came to light, prompting the filing of an FIR against Inspector Shankar at the Byatarayanapura police station in Bengaluru. Subsequently, the accused Inspector secured a stay order from the court in response to the FIR.

The incident dates back to 2022, during Shankar’s tenure as an inspector at the Byatarayanapura police station. Accusations surfaced regarding the mishandling of Rs 75 lakh in recovered money linked to a theft case. Charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code were lodged against him.

In response to the allegations, the Police Commissioner transferred the case to the Central Crime Branch (CCB), initiating a departmental inquiry. The suspension order was issued following the substantiation of the allegations against the accused Inspector.

The Special Wing of the CCB Police took Lokanath, the middleman implicated in the case, into custody. The matter also gained attention in the state assembly session, where it was raised and deliberated upon.
