Bengaluru: As the turmoil in state politics deepens, the Congress-Janata Dal (S) state coalition leaders are trying every way possible to find a solution to the MLAs’ resignation row.

On Tuesday, July 9, Karnataka State Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar stood up to his words of going through the resignation letters of over 13 rebel coalition MLAs who had submitted their resignation last week. He had assured on Saturday, July 6 that he would definitely look into them under the applicable laws.

After going through the resignation letters, he spoke at his office at Vidhana Soudha and said, “First of all, the MLAs had not taken my prior permission before submitting their resignations. I was not at all aware of their move. Because I had no prior information on this, I had left office on work.”

“Until and unless the rebel MLAs meet me personally and submit the resignation letters, I will not be in a position to accept them”, he added.

Speaker Ramesh Kumar also clarified that he was not responsible for the rebel MLAs submitting the letters during his absence in office.

Meanwhile, he confirmed that out of the 13 resignation letters tendered, eight were not submitted in appropriate format, because of which they could not be accepted.

Later, former chief minister and CLP leader Siddaramaiah along with other Congress leaders and advocate on behalf of the Congress party met the Speaker in his chamber and discussed further actions. This meeting was held after the CLP meeting in the Vidhana Soudha.
