Bengaluru: The Election Commission (EC) has issued directions to the cooperative department to stop the implementation of the loan waiver scheme immediately.
According to sources, the cooperative department halted the transfer of the loan waiver scheme benefits to farmers from March 10, immediately after the commission announced the model code of conduct.
“As the scheme involves a huge sum of money and the beneficiaries may get carried away by the money, the scheme has been stopped temporarily,” informed sources privy to the developments.
The farm loan waiver scheme is one of the most ambitious projects launched by the state government as a one-time relief measure to bring the farmers out of financial distress.
