Mohandas Pai Slams Bengaluru Metro Over Yellow Line Delays
Former Infosys CFO and civic advocate Mohandas Pai has fiercely criticised Bengaluru’s Development Minister and the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for yet another delay in the much-anticipated Yellow Line of the Namma Metro. Taking to social media platform X, Pai condemned what he described as a “very bad lousy work culture,” urging immediate accountability for repeated lapses.
Tagging Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, Pai questioned the lack of effective management and commitment to deadlines, saying, “Delay after delay! Please suspend the official responsible.”
The 19.15-km Yellow Line, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra, was initially slated for a mid-2024 launch. It now faces a pushback to late July or August, due to unresolved issues with the train signalling system. Despite completing most statutory tests, Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) approvals are pending.
A BMRCL official cited software data glitches flagged by Siemens India Ltd, the signalling contractor. “Even minor errors activate the system’s fail-safe mode,” the official noted, highlighting the critical role of software integrity in train operations.
This delay is particularly awkward as Deputy CM Shivakumar had publicly assured that the line would be functional by May 2025. With mounting public frustration and political pressure, the credibility of project timelines is once again being questioned.
Bengaluru’s metro expansion — once a beacon of progress — is now a symbol of bureaucratic bottlenecks and eroding public trust.
