Former Karnataka Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take decisive steps in tackling Bengaluru’s congestion crisis.

In a letter dated February 8, Moily emphasized that overcrowding and housing shortages have worsened urban chaos. To address this, he recommended developing satellite towns within a 30 km radius to ease Bengaluru’s infrastructure burden and enhance its livability.

Siddaramaiah has forwarded the proposal to the Urban Development Department (UDD) and BBMP for evaluation.

Urban planners have long advocated decentralization, arguing that investing in satellite townships is a more sustainable solution than spending Rs 1 lakh crore on tunnel roads and elevated corridors—projects that could leave Bengaluru in a state of perpetual construction.

Experts suggest that companies would be willing to shift to new satellite hubs, provided the government ensures strong connectivity, water supply, and electricity.
