Bengaluru: Months after the attack on the Wistron plant, the Taiwanese company has decided to resume operations within a week.
According to a senior Karnataka government official, Wistron has received all required clearances for the resumption and it likely to restart production within a week.
On December 12, a protest led by contract workers turned into a violent attack on the Wistron premises; causing an estimate of 52 crores worth of damages. The factory is located 60 km from Bengaluru in Narasapura in the Kolar district.
Contract workers staged the protest alleging various issues with the company like unfair 12-hour shifts, unexplained salary cuts, and wage-cuts. After due investigation, the workers’ allegations were confirmed by at least two Karnataka government-commissioned reports in addition to several other violations.
After the violent attack on the company premises by disgruntled workers, the company had to receive updated factory licenses and reports have confirmed that same.
Owing to these violations, Apple had refused to give new business to Wistron as it also failed its internal investigation. The company responded to the move by removing the vice-president overlooking India operations.
Despite the Karnataka government’s assurance to reopen the company within 15 days after the violent incidence, the company failed to open until now.
