In a significant boost for Bengaluru’s public transport network, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has received the 13th trainset for the Namma Metro Yellow Line. The six-coach train arrived at the Hebbagodi depot earlier this week and is currently undergoing unloading and assembly procedures.
The addition forms part of BMRCL’s efforts to strengthen services on one of the city’s busiest metro corridors, which connects key residential and IT hubs in southern Bengaluru.
New train to enter service in August
Although the latest train has arrived, officials indicated that it will require several weeks of testing and certification before carrying passengers. According to reports, the train is expected to become operational by August 11.
The Yellow Line currently operates with 10 trainsets, providing a peak-hour frequency of approximately seven minutes. With additional trains entering service, BMRCL aims to improve service frequency and accommodate growing passenger demand.
More trains on the way
Two more trainsets are currently undergoing testing and are expected to be deployed in the coming weeks. By August, BMRCL plans to increase the number of operational trains on the corridor from 10 to 15.
The 14th and 15th trainsets, manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems near Kolkata, are expected to be dispatched by early July. The company is scheduled to complete the entire Yellow Line train order by July before shifting focus to supplying additional trains for the Green and Purple Lines.
Before entering passenger service, each train must undergo extensive static and dynamic testing, including a mandatory 750-kilometre trial run conducted during night hours on the main corridor.
A key link for Bengaluru commuters
The 19.75-kilometre Yellow Line connects Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road (RV Road) to Bommasandra through 16 elevated stations. Since its inauguration in August 2025, the corridor has become a vital transport link for commuters travelling to Electronic City, Silk Board, Bommanahalli, Hosa Road and other major employment hubs.
The line has helped ease travel through some of Bengaluru’s most congested stretches, offering faster and more predictable journeys for thousands of daily passengers.
