The Delhi Police have arrested a 47-year-old man from Mysuru for allegedly sending more than 1,100 hoax bomb threats to schools, courts, and government institutions across the country.
The accused, identified as Srinivas Louis, was apprehended from his rented residence during a joint operation conducted by Delhi Police along with local authorities on Saturday.
Arrest follows nationwide threat alerts
The arrest comes in the wake of a recent surge in bomb threat messages targeting key institutions, including the Delhi High Court, the Delhi Assembly, educational institutions, and other government offices.
Officials said the repeated threats had triggered multiple security alerts and emergency responses, causing disruption and concern among authorities and the public.
Accused confessed during interrogation
According to police officials, Srinivas Louis is a postgraduate and originally from Bengaluru. He was currently unemployed and residing with his mother, a retired government employee.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to sending over 1,100 threat messages using emails and other communication platforms.
A senior officer stated that initial findings suggest the accused may have been under mental stress at the time of committing the offences. However, officials emphasised that a detailed investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of his actions and possible motives.
Serious implications for public safety
Authorities noted that hoax bomb threats place a heavy burden on law enforcement and emergency services, often leading to large-scale evacuations and deployment of resources.
Such incidents are treated with utmost seriousness as they not only disrupt public life but also create panic and divert attention from genuine threats.
Investigation continues
Police are continuing their probe to analyse digital evidence and trace the exact channels used by the accused. Officials are also examining whether he acted alone or had any accomplices.
The arrest has brought relief to agencies that had been grappling with a wave of false alarms, and further legal action is expected under relevant provisions of law.
