Mysuru Villagers Plant Trees on Muddy Road to Protest Poor Infrastructure
In a symbolic act of defiance, residents of Moleyur village under B. Matakere Gram Panchayat staged a protest by planting saplings along a muddy road connecting their village to Kebbepur A Hadiya Colony. The protest was led by members of the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti, who raised slogans demanding basic amenities and dignified living conditions.
The road, which turns into a slippery and impassable stretch during rains, has long been a hazard for villagers. Frequent appeals to the authorities have gone unheard, despite worsening conditions and increasing risks.
The villagers, particularly from Hadiya settlements, are not only struggling with mobility issues but also live in constant fear of wild animal attacks due to the area’s proximity to forest zones.
Protesters, including Gram Panchayat member Sumati, and residents Seeramma, Shivaraju, Krishna, Parvati Rani, Sasheela, Lakshmi, Bommakaria, Kulla, and Rajesh, demanded immediate action. Their primary concerns include the urgent need for road development, sanitation facilities, and drainage systems.
They warned of launching an intensified agitation if their demands are not addressed soon. The tree-planting protest was a peaceful but pointed reminder that villagers are prepared to fight for their rights — with or without government attention.
