Bengaluru: The Bangalore 1st Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Court once again rejected the bail petition of ruling Congress MLA N A Haris’ son Mohammad Nalapad and extended his judicial custody by another two weeks to April 4, for allegedly assaulting a youth at a cafe in city’s centre on February 17.
Police allowed Nalapad to take part in the court proceedings from Parappana Agrahara prison on the outskirts of the city through video conferencing as his earlier bail term ended today.
The court decided to extend his judicial custody after hearing arguments in favour and against. Advocates representing Vidvat in their plea cited that his release may lead to destruction of evidence apart from a likelihood of influencing witnesses.
Nalapad and the six accused were arrested on February 19 after they surrendered at the Cubbon Park Police Station in the city centre and a kilometre away from Farzi Cafe in the upscale UB City Mall where the youth (Vidvat) was brutally assaulted following an argument.
