Bengaluru: Retired IPS officer B N S Reddy on Thursday said the government should facilitate court-monitored probe into the recent attack on Vidwath by Congress MLA N A Haris’s son Mohammed Nalapad at a hotel situated at UB City.

“How can a free trial happen when the father of the accused sat in the meeting by the Home Minister?” asked BNS Reddy while speaking to reporters here.

With a sense of fear gripping the city, question being posed by many is whether Bengaluru continues to remain a city which has been internationally popular.

“One of the main reasons is the No Respect for Law in the minds of many people. Mohammed Haris Nalapad attack on Vidhwat in UB City has disturbed me. How a youth was beaten mercilessly and none dared to stop. Are we making Bengaluru a city where such acts of rowdyism will go unchecked?” he asks.

Initiating a campaign “BhayaMukta Bengaluru” which will increase citizens’ role and responsibility in fighting crime in the city. Reddy posed several questions which highlight his concern for a safer Bengaluru.

1: Why Did Farzi Café Management remain mute spectators?

2: What were the Bouncers at the Pub doing?

3: Why the over 50+ security Guards of UB City watched helplessly?

“People are scared into submission and ignore such things as long as it doesn’t impact them. That is why they became mute spectators to the reign of terror unleashed by Mohammed Nalapad. Bengaluru has to fight back; its citizens have to ensure that the respect for law has to be maintained” feels Reddy who in his 35-year service also served as DCP Central covering the Shantinagar area for a long time.

“Nagarikara Surakshe Abhiyana” proposes to make Bengaluru citizens raise their voice against such incidents in the future. Citizens can join the “Bhayamukta Bengaluru” by giving a missed call to 9019551122.

“People complain about the role of police. I feel policing can be improved only when the people participate in it as responsible citizens. Citizens’ Safety should be the Key element and we want to raise our voice to make people participate so that they can alert. We want people of Bengaluru to join hands to fight such organized crimes,” says Reddy.

The “BhayaMukta Bengaluru” drive will work towards making a safer Bengaluru. “Parties come up with various promises in their manifesto but citizens want safety as a Big assurance. We will meet and connect with people, invite suggestions from Bengaluru people over the next few days and then draw up an action plan to instill confidence in the people. Apart from UB City incident there are many such that happen and no action gets taken” says Keiran Narayan Co-Convener Bhayamukta Bengaluru

The Bhayamukta Bengaluru is getting a positive response from several likeminded organizations across Bengaluru. “We approached several likeminded organizations over the last week and they have expressed solidarity to the movement. We hope to come out with some suggestions/solutions in the coming weeks” says Balaji K , coordinator of the campaign
