Bengaluru: The ‘Namma BMTC‘ mobile app, launched to enhance women’s safety on public transport in the city, has gained significant popularity. Over 8.31 lakh passengers have downloaded the app since its introduction in September 2023.

Developed under the Nirbhaya Yojana, the app offers a range of features designed to provide a safer and more convenient commuting experience for women. These include real-time bus tracking, SOS panic buttons, and onboard cameras for surveillance.

BMTC has equipped 5,000 of its 6,500 buses with vehicle tracking devices, panic buttons, and CCTV cameras. The app is linked to this infrastructure, allowing for immediate assistance in case of emergencies.

The ‘Namma BMTC’ app also provides valuable information such as the nearest bus stops, estimated arrival times, and details of amenities like ATMs, restaurants, and hospitals along the route. Passengers can also share feedback and suggestions through the app.

Despite receiving a high volume of user data, BMTC officials have reported no complaints regarding safety issues. This indicates that the app is effectively addressing the concerns of women commuters and contributing to a safer public transport environment in Bengaluru.
