Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who also holds the Finance portfolio, will present the State Budget for 2016-17 today. This will be his 4th Budget presentation as CM and 11th overall. He was finance minister in the erstwhile Janata Dal government.

CM to look beyond Ahinda in this budget?

Bengaluru: Evidently, the state anticipates that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would load the budget with goodies for all with the aim of combating the poll debacle.
The recent ZP/TP polls and the by-election results have proven that the state Congress government has not managed to strike right chord with the voters.

Hence, it is of utmost importance that the CM strives to reach out to wider social base rather than his traditional Ahinda base.

The budget size is set to cross the Rs 1,50,000cr mark (Rs 1,42,000cr last year) for the first time. This budget gains a lot of importance, mainly because Siddaramaiah government has only two years to complete the five year tenure and now, he needs to act as the CM of the state and of all classes and castes and not project himself as an Ahinda leader.

It is with this budget that he can dispel the notion that he is not a leader confined to the Ahinda support base. He needs to convince the youth of the state of his intentions to empower them.

It is said that Yuva Shakti scheme to offer loans for rural youth is on the platter to boost rural enterpreneurship.

Attractive investment subsidy for setting up industries in the backward Hyderabad-Karnataka region, big hike in seed money to nurture startups, toning up of online single window clearance system to improve ease of doing business are among the prominent features of the budget to attract investments beyond Bengaluru. Industrial sector is hoping for a rollback of VAT on commodities in 14.5% bracket to 14% and also the 5.5% VAT slab to 5%, reports New Indian Express.

It said that after the success of Global Investors’ Meet, the Siddu Government is planning yet another mega show.

The B S Yeddyurappa-led government had conducted the previous edition of the show in 2011.
