Bengaluru: In a major respite to Namma Metro commuters, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced the induction of an eighth train on the Yellow Line starting February 27, aimed at improving frequency and reducing waiting time during peak and non-peak hours.
According to an official release, with the addition of the new train, Metro services on the Yellow Line will operate at a 9-minute interval during peak hours, reduced from the existing 10 minutes. During non-peak hours, trains will run at a 14-minute interval instead of the earlier 18 minutes, from Monday to Saturday.
However, there will be no change in the Sunday timetable.
No change in first and last train timings
BMRCL clarified that the first and last train timings from both terminal stations — R V Road Metro Station and Bommasandra Metro Station — will remain unchanged on all days.
Officials stated that the move is part of ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency and provide better connectivity to commuters travelling along the Yellow Line corridor.
Relief for daily commuters
The increased frequency is expected to ease congestion during rush hours, particularly for office-goers and industrial workers commuting between south Bengaluru and the city’s peripheral areas.
Passengers have been requested to take note of the revised intervals and make use of the enhanced services. Commuter groups have welcomed the decision, stating that shorter waiting times would significantly improve travel convenience and reduce crowding on platforms.
With ridership steadily increasing, BMRCL is likely to continue augmenting train services in a phased manner to meet growing demand across Metro corridors.
