Bengaluru: A social media campaign against the incorporation of the Hindi language in the BMTC’s Real Time Passenger Information System was a top trending subject on social media on Friday, January 31 evening.
The campaign was carried out with #NammaBMTCHindiBeda.
It all started when the BMTC launched the system in 1,000 buses. Along with Kannada and English, information was being provided in Hindi as well. The campaign was carried out as the people felt that this was an attempt to impose Hindi on the southern state.
Hundreds of Kannada activists used this hashtag to raise their voice against the BMTC’s decision. One of the most common complaints was that there is no need to provide information in Hindi as the non-Kannadigas can use the English information.
