Narendra Modi is expert in getting publicity: Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an expert in getting maximum publicity without doing anything good for the benefit of people in the country.

Speaking at the function organised to announce various welfare schemes at Sarvagna Nagar Assembly constituency in the city, the chief minister said Congress government in Karnataka has done a lot for the welfare of poor and marginalized sections in the state but failed to get publicity.

“Prime Minister Modi has been busy in giving eloquent speeches. He promises everything but delivers nothing,’’ the chief minister said.

Coming down heavily on the prime minister for not fulfilling the promises made during the parliament elections, he said Modi had promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in the bank account of each person if he gets elected as prime minister but he has not deposited even Rs 15 in the bank accounts of poor and needy persons.

“Modi promised to bring back the black money parked in foreign banks as soon as he becomes Prime Minister but did nothing even after three years,’’ he said.

Criticising the prime minister’s Jan Dhan Scheme, he said poor people were not benefited from this scheme. “Has this scheme bring cloth, food and shelter to poor people?’’ he asked.

Recalling how BJP leaders were busy in shouting slogans – India Shining – during A.B. Vajpayee regime, he said the poor remained poor while rich people became richer during BJP regime,’’ he said.

Lampooning BJP leaders’ programme of visiting Dalit homes, the chief minister said BJP state president B.S. Yeddyurappa used to bring breakfast from a hotel and eat it at Dalits’ houses. “It is a political gimmick. They stopped visiting Dalits’ homes as soon as I asked the BJP leaders to accept Dalit girls as their daughters-in-law,’’ he said.

JD(S) is pseudo secular

The chief minister appealed the residents of Sarvagnanagar assembly constituency not to entertain Janata Dal (Secular) leaders. Describing JD(S) leaders as pseudo secularists, he said extending support to them would be supporting communal forces.

“It is impossible for the JD(S) to come to power in the state. They will be useful to form a coalition government if they won a few assembly seats. They are opportunists,’’ he said.

The chief minister said BJP leaders are experts in creating communal riots. “Kannada matinee idol Dr Rajkumar used to describe his fans as Gods. Voters will be Gods of Congress if they cast their votes for us,’’ he said.

Earlier, the chief minister has disbursed financial assistance to 892 unemployed youth to become self-reliant, 665 autorickshaws for drivers, two-wheelers for 285 physically-challenged persons and incentives to 23 mentally ill people, fees reimbursement for 584 students.
