The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Bengaluru Zonal Unit has apprehended five individuals at Kempegowda International Airport, uncovering a significant drug trafficking operation. The authorities seized approximately 20 kilograms of high-quality cannabis, commonly known as hydroponic weed, from the suspects.

The arrests followed intelligence gathered by the NCB, which revealed that these individuals were transporting the illicit drugs from Thailand to Bengaluru. Upon intercepting the group, investigators discovered that the suspects, aged between 25 and 35 years, were essentially serving as ‘mules’ to carry the contraband.

According to an official statement from the NCB’s Bengaluru Zonal Unit, the suspects were allegedly recruited by a transnational drug trafficking syndicate. These unknown individuals reportedly funded the suspects’ trips to Thailand under the guise of “leisure” vacations, promising that upon their return to India, they would be tasked with transporting bags filled with cannabis.

The arrested individuals were misled into believing that carrying the drugs was not a criminal act in India. They were also assured that in case of interception, arrangements would be made for their swift release. The NCB continues to investigate the operation and is working to identify the syndicate behind this smuggling ring.
