Bengaluru: Karnataka will implement the National Education Policy (NEP) for pre-primary education in the current academic year. The State Government has sent Union Education Ministry 26 position papers on implementing NEP in school education.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister B. C. Nagesh on Sunday June 5 announced while addressing a World Environment Day event in his constituency organised by Housing Minister V. Somanna.

“We will do it in stages. It will be implemented in anganwadis across the State in the first phase,” Nagesh said.

In the next phase, the NEP will be extended to primary and secondary education.

“Our efforts to implement NEP have been appreciated by the Union Education Minister,” he added.

Nagesh said that the government has started construction of 7,000 classrooms at government schools across the Sstate, as well as prioritising the repair of dilapidated buildings.

He said that the government has hired guest teachers and there will be no lack of teachers in government schools this year.

“A recruitment drive for 15,000 teachers is currently underway. The key answers for the recent entrance exam have been published,” he said.
