Bengaluru: ‘Lynch the owner’, was the call given by irked netizens after a picture of a green bus bearing the name “Democracy Travels”, with a photo of Mohammad Ali Jinnah, father of Pakistan was posted on social media.
The image was posted by Neeraj Kamath who was the first to spot the bus plying near Hosuru Road in Kudlu gate of Bengaluru on Wednesday. “Bus With Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s Photo In Bengaluru @CPBlr @narendramodi @HMOIndia @CMofKarnataka @KirenRijiju,” read the tweet posted by Neeraj, a former core committee member of NaMo Brigade.
As the picture went viral, several people vented their ire on how a bus with Jinnah’s photo was doing the rounds in India. “Are we in Pakistan or Bharath?” read one tweet while another post by a person named Abhishek Singh called for people to “lynch the owner inside the bus and burn it.”
“Can please anyone explain …why are my countrymen behaving like this? If anyone wants to support our enemy country they can just leave and settle out there. OR IS IT THE OPPOSITION PARTIES’ DIRTY POLITICS JUST TO OUST MODIJI FROM POWER?? But these pictures hurt the hearts of million people living here,” The Nationalist, a right-wing Facebook group posted.
However, later it was revealed that the bus in question had been rented for the purpose of shooting of a Malayalam film ‘Aabhaasam’, which was being shot in Bengaluru. The film makers reportedly forgot to put up a board, conveying that the bus was meant for the movie shooting.
The owner had no idea of the Jinnah’s picture being put on the bus had it pulled down fearing public backlash, it is gathered.
