As Bengaluru prepares for New Year’s Eve, the police have prohibited the use of masks and whistling in public gatherings to maintain order and safety.

MG Road, the city’s prime celebration spot where over 100,000 people converge annually, will see the deployment of over 2,000 police officers. Key locations like Brigade Road, Church Street, Indiranagar, HSR Layout, and Koramangala have been equipped with additional lighting and security. Koramangala alone will have over 1,000 extra personnel stationed to ensure smooth celebrations.

A mini control room will monitor 150 CCTV cameras placed at sensitive locations. Flyovers across the city will remain inaccessible during the night, while metro and bus services from MG Road will extend operations until 2 a.m.

To ensure women’s safety, the Rani Chennamma Special Squad will be on duty, and 12 designated safety islands will provide assistance. Watchtowers and healthcare services have also been set up for emergencies. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has introduced a ₹500 penalty for harassment, with offenders handed over to the police. Security staff will be present in metro coaches for added vigilance.

In previous years, New Year festivities in Bengaluru have faced challenges, including a 2017 incident on MG Road when women were harassed amid overwhelming crowds. Enhanced safety measures aim to prevent such occurrences.

Stay safe and celebrate responsibly!
